Shepherds Grove

A few weeks ago, my wife Donna and I had our first visit to the new location of the Hour of Power ministries. Now called Shepherds Grove, the former congregation of the Crystal Cathedral meets at St. Callistus just a few blocks away.

As I'm sure it was for most of you, this was a bittersweet experience for me. As we discussed on our last monthly "Call", change can be difficult. And yet, it is inevitable.

Experiencing the service at Shepherd's Grove and then watching it back on the newly revamped "Hour of Power", reminded me of something I wrote in one of my more recent books, Walking in Your Own Shoes. I need to remind myself of God's divine plan for the congregation of the Hour of Power. He has most certainly been in control this entire time.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
-Genesis 50:20

"I cannot tell you how every victory and every defeat in your past or present figures into God's purpose for your life. But, I can tell you with certainty five things:

1. You are not an accident, adrift in a world without purpose.
2. You are a part of God's creation plan, meaning your life has a purpose.
3. God's purpose for your life will be achieved by a plan worked out over time.
4. Every day of your life adds to your ability to accomplish God's purpose for your life.
5. You may need to open your eyes of faith wider in order to see how God intends to accomplish His purpose for your life.

My encouragement to you is this:
First, believe God. Believe you are a part of His purposeful creation.
Second, don't agonize over the past and future of your purpose in life. Believe God was in your past and will be in your future and is in your present.
Third, pray a prayer like this: 'Lord, open the eyes of my heart. Help me see my life from Your loving perspective. Help me believe Romans 8:28 - that You are using everything in my life to accomplish your purpose for me.'

Whether you know it or not (or even believe it or not) you are in some stage of God's unfolding purpose for your life. And there is no better place for you to be." (Walking In Your Own Shoes, Page 46)

Shepherds Grove will be a wonderful church community for the Hour of Power to grow into something far beyond what anyone imagined. With the Christ Cathedral now closed for reconstruction, I am comforted knowing that when it reopens it will become a beacon of hope and a house of refuge for an entirely new set of people. God's hand continues to be at work and I know His plan will accomplish great works.

  1. I watched the Hour of Power at its new location yesterday. I like the new building. It feels more personal, the way the alter is set up. I'm pleased that the church is continuing its ministry.
    God bless all.

  2. Along with "changes" as you spoke of, I realize every "change" requires a "choice" to be made. (Who, Where, When, What, How?) I love the choices of the name Shepherd's Grove, the setting and layout too. HoP have "chosen" very well ! The stained glass and more intimate sense are wonderful. Changes and Choices made in His honour, I know will always be good !
